Rocks

rocks abc

  • Read If Rocks Could Sing by Leslie McGuirk
    • very cool: this book is pretty amazing. The author has collected rocks that are naturally in the shape of every letter of the alphabet. And also rocks that look like something that starts with each letter of the alphabet. A must-read for a preschool rock day!
  • Get books from the library and learn about the different types of rocks (igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic)DSC00054
  • Go on a walk or to the river and find lots of different rocks. Have fun throwing rocks in the water.

  • Make crayon rocks
    1. Go for a walk and collect lots of big rocks. Find rocks with one flat side. They work better when they don’t wobble around.
    2. Wash and dry the rocks.
    3. Place them on a cookie sheet then pop them in the oven at 250 for 15 minutes. Careful! They will be HOT, HOT, HOT! Use an oven mitt.
    4. We colored our rocks outside because I didn’t want to have hot rocks on the table. Cover the ground with butcher paper or cardboard.
    5. Slowly color the hot rocks with crayons. Yes, they’re still very hot, so keep your fingers away! The crayons melt and are surprisingly bright!
